SHOOTING & CHASE

PRESS RELEASE FROM SCOTLAND NECK, NC POLICE DEPARTMENT

Several individuals were shot at party just outside of Scotland Neck. This morning, at approximately 3:25am, Sgt. Knight attempted to stop a vehicle that was traveling at a high rate of speed. The vehicle failed to stop which resulted in a chase that ended in Tarboro. There were two gunshot victims in the vehicle. The driver was charged for failing to stop for blue lights/siren and careless and reckless driving. Other charges are pending.

Before someone comments about the chase, the average person, especially if he or she has been drinking, does NOT have a right to refuse to stop for law enforcement. No matter what the situation is, driving is a privilege in North Carolina, and one must follow the law(s).

It was discovered that a shooting occurred just outside of Scotland Neck near Lees Meadow Road. Halifax County Sheriff's Office detectives are investigating the shooting as this scene is in their jurisdiction.

Unfortunately, the victims and multiple individuals we spoke with, did not see anything although they were in the same exact location of the shooting. We know that several victims were flown to ECU Health in Greenville.

Again, Halifax County SO are investigating the shooting. A special thank you to Tarboro Police Department for their assistance.
