ADDITIONAL CHARGES STACKED AGAINST FUGITIVE THAT LEAD NCSO ON A CHASE IN ROCKY MOUNT BEFORE CRASHING


James Dylan Harris was treated at a hospital for his injuries sustained in the crash that happened Saturday night and then transferred to Nash County Jail on Sunday morning.

He was charged with FLEEING TO ELUDE ARREST WITH A MOTOR VEHICLE RESISTING ARREST RECKLESS DRIVING TO ENDANGER POSSESSION OF DRUG PARAPHERNALIA NO OPERATORS LICENSE

This is on top of the nearly two dozen charges he already had pending.

Fighting Crime does not usually post the names of vehicle accident victims. However, this person took it upon himself to lead NCSO in a chase, which was criminal activity, and put the lives of many others in jeopardy. Being that this person was committing a crime by fleeing, ultimately resulting in a crash and that he was wanted on several outstanding warrants, his name and information was shared. No photos of the accident scene will be posted.

When suspects or victims are treated at ANY hospital we no longer share the name of the hospital in which the person is being treated. We only say that they are being treated at a "local hospital".

Two other individuals were in the vehicle and their names have NOT been shared.

TWO FROM VA ARRESTED AFTER A TRAFFIC STOP ON INTERSTATE 95

On January 13, 2021 at around 2:30 p.m., Lieutenant E. Carroll of the Halifax County Sheriff’s Office stopped a 2020 Hyundai passenger car for an unsafe movement violation on I-95, northbound, near the 173 mile post. A search of the vehicle resulted in approximately 5 pounds of Marijuana, a handgun, U.S. Currency, drug paraphernalia and MDMA (Ecstasy pills) were located and seized. Lamar Maalik Byrd, 23 of Mattaponi, Va. and Nicholas Kyle Joseph, 22 of Painter, Va. were arrested and charged with possession with intent to sell and deliver marijuana, felony possession of marijuana, possession with intent sell deliver MDMA, maintaining a vehicle for controlled substance, possession of drug paraphernalia and carrying a concealed weapon. Mr. Byrd and Joseph were incarcerated in the Halifax County Detention Center under a $15,000.00 secured bond each with a court date of February 17, 2021 pending.

COCAINE AND DRUGS SEIZED IN TRAFFIC STOP



Cocaine and gun seized during traffic stop

Roanoke Rapids - On Wednesday January 13, 2021 shortly after 10 p.m., Agents B.J. Murphy and DJ Epperson were patrolling in the area of Highway 158 and Smith Church Road.

Agents initiated a traffic stop in the area of Buffaloe street due to the driver driving in a carless and recklessly manner swerving in and out of lanes.

The driver was identified as Kesherra Graham, 27 of Oak Street.

Upon approaching the vehicle and speaking with Graham, agents noticed Graham attempt to conceal what appeared to be a clear bag containing a white powder substance. A subsequent search of the vehicle resulted in the seizure of 6 grams of cocaine, as well as a .9mm handgun.

Agent B.J. Murphy arrested and charged Graham with felony possession of cocaine, felony maintaining vehicle/dwelling place for a controlled substance, and carrying a concealed gun.

Graham received a written promise to appear with a January 20th court date




THURSDAY 1/14


MAN ARRESTED AND CHARGED WITH THE DEADLY HIT AND RUN ON HUNTER HILL RD - Rocky Mount


DOMONEQ MONTEZ CANADY Age 30 with an address listed as Hurt Dr in Rocky Mount was arrested today and charged with FELONY HIT AND RUN CAUSING DEATH.


Saturday night, January 9th, 2021 JULIA UDUMA 46, was struck and killed on Hunter Hill Rd near Raper Dr. in Rocky Mount.


RMPD released a vehicle description and identified the vehicle on Tuesday per a press release.


CANADY was convicted in 2011 for speeding to elude arrest and resisting.

A PEDESTRIAN WAS STRUCK ON THOMAS BETTS NEAR GOOSE BRANCH


The vehicle fled the scene. The female that was struck suffered non life threatening injuries.


SHOOTING OCCURRED OUTSIDE OF PINETOPS

A shooting occurred at Cobb’s cross roads just outside Pinetops in Edgecombe Co overnight.

The shooting happened near Cobb’s crossroads by Taylor’s store. The intersection was taped off & shell casings were located. The victim drove to a nearby mobile home & called 911. No word on the victims injuries at this time.

Local Male and Female charged with Insurance Fraud - Rocky Mount/Spring Hope


North Carolina Insurance Commissioner Mike Causey today announced the arrest of Chad Jason Cady, 47, of 113 Pintail Lane, Rocky Mount, and Donna Scaff Cady, 50, of 730 Tyson Loop, Spring Hope. They were charged with insurance fraud and obtaining property by false pretense, both felonies.


The two are accused of obtaining $2,473.71 from State Farm Fire and Casualty Insurance Co. by filing a false claim for lost or stolen jewelry.


According to the arrest warrants, the two knew that the jewelry was not lost or stolen. The items were later pawned at American Jewelry and Pawn in Rocky Mount.


The offenses occurred between April 5, 2015, and May 1, 2015.


Special agents with the Department of Insurance’s Criminal Investigations Division arrested the two on Jan. 11. They were released on a written promise to appear in court.

HALIFAX COUNTY MAN ARRESTED ON DRUG CHARGES AFTER BEING SHOT IN A DOMESTIC DISPUTE



UPDATE - ARRESTED

WANTED KATOE HARRIS JR

On Friday January 8, 2021 at around 2pm Deputies with the Halifax County Sheriff’s Office responded to a residence on NC Hwy 48 just outside of Roanoke Rapids in reference to a subject that had been shot. Once on scene Investigators learned that Katoe Harris Jr, 22 of Roanoke Rapids had been shot and sustained nonlife-threatening injuries. Detective Matt Brown learned that the incident was the result of a domestic assault where the female was believed to be defending herself. Mr. Harris was treated and released from Vidant North hospital after the incident. Detective Brown secured warrants for arrest on Mr. Harris for assault on a female. During the investigation a search warrant was served on the residence by Agent B.J. Murphy, where he along with Detectives seized 15.6 grams of Fentanyl, 3 grams of Meth, 4.9 grams of cocaine and 3.5 grams of Marijuana. Additional charges may follow as the result of the search warrant.


ROBBERY OCCURRED ON FAIRVIEW RD IN ROCKY MOUNT


Around 950PM on Friday 1/15 a Robbery occurred on the 300 block of Fairview Rd in Rocky Mount.



TWELVE HOMICIDES IN ROCKY MOUNT IN 2020


Rocky Mount's Homicide count for 2020 is now at 12 after RMPD took over the case of Dominick Parker who was found in a field in Castalia after Elijah Alston, who was charged in the murder, tried to set him on fire to conceal the death. After an investigation it was determined that the crime happened in Rocky Mount and not in the county, Therefore, RMPD is now in charge of the case.
