Man arrested on drug charges after trying to leave accident scene

On Sunday 05/24/2020 Members of the Roanoke Rapids Police Department A Squad were dispatched along with Fire and EMS to the intersection of US Hwy 158 and NC Hwy 48 in reference to a motor vehicle collision. Upon arrival Officers were initially unable to locate an accident. Officers were notified that one of the vehicles involved was attempting to leave the parking lot of one of the businesses at the intersection. Officers observed the suspected vehicle with front end damageattempting to leave the area. Officer H. Grimes stopped the vehicle operated by Katoe Harris Jr. as it attempted to leave the parking lot. Harris exited the vehicle and Officers observed suspected contraband in plain view. Officer Grimes deployed K-9 Jimi and a further search of the vehicle lead to the discovery of additional contraband. Harris was arrested and charged with two counts of Trafficking in Heroin; Possession with Intent to Sell/Deliver Heroin; Possession with intent to Sell/Deliver Fentanyl; two counts of Possession of a Schedule II Controlled Substance; Possession of Drug Paraphernalia; Maintaining a Vehicle for Controlled Substance; and served an outstanding warrant for arrest for No Operators License from Halifax County. Harris posted a $60,000.00 bond. Sgt. Salmon, Cpl. Benthall, Officer Grimes, and Officer Walker, conducted the investigation, P.A.C.E. and Narcotics Investigators assisted in the investigation.
