Man charged in Rocky Mount shooting

Brian Jose Melendez Martinez 25, was arrested last night and charged in a shooting that happened yesterday in Rocky Mount.


Per reports Melendez-Martinez was charged with shooting into a dwelling, assault with a deadly weapon and assault with a deadly weapon with intent to kill.

He has a January 21st, 2021 first appearance on these charges


The victim was shot while sitting on the porch, the bullets went through the front door shattering the glass and through the living room wall. The EMS call stated that the male was shot in the hand. However, RMPD is stating the victim suffered lacerations from the glass. The victim is 17 years old.


Melendez-Martinez has a $30,000 bond

On Jan. 19 at approximately 1:05 pm., the Rocky Mount Police Department responded to a shooting into an occupied dwelling in the 300 blk of Braswell St. When officers arrived, they located the victim, Brandon Alcaraz.


Alcaraz was sitting on the front porch when shots were fired from a dark-colored S.U.V. The projectiles entered the residence, where two (2) juveniles were located. Alcaraz suffered a laceration from broken glass.


The investigation led to the arrest of Brian Jose Melendez Martinez, a 25-year-old Hispanic male. Melendez was charged with shooting into an occupied dwelling, assault with a deadly weapon, and assault with intent to kill. He received a $30,000 secure bond.
