Homicide occurred in Tarboro overnight

Around 1130PM last night a shooting took place on Ash St near Howard St in Tarboro. One person was taken to the hospital and passed away. Tarboro police department is still investigating.


Many witnesses advised they heard several shots fired. Around 1230pm Tarboro police went after a vehicle that had come towards the scene. No word if that vehicle was stopped or if that person was involved.

Please note the following release of information:

"At approximately 11:30 pm last night, members of the Tarboro Police Department responded to an address within the 1200 block of Ash Street regarding a report of shots fired. As officers arrived and began assessing the scene they found an unresponsive male suffering from several gunshot wounds. Officers immediately rendered first aid including CPR, tourniquet application, and deployment of an AED. After a pulse was restored, the victim was transported to Vidant Edgecombe Hospital by the Edgecombe County Rescue Squad. He was later airlifted to Vidant Medical Center in Greenville.

Despite these life-saving efforts, the victim succumbed to his injuries several hours later. During the ensuing investigation, the victim was identified as 19-year-old Zartavius Henderson of Rocky Mount. The investigation is on-going and anyone with information regarding this homicide is asked to contact Detective Sergeant Brandon Richardson or Detective Corporal Kenny Womack at (252) 641-4247.
