Roanoke Rapids man arrested on drug charges after traffic stop

On June 1, 2020 at approximately 10:30 pm Master Officer M Hunsucker (K-9 Officer) conducted a traffic stop of a vehicle in the area of Virginia Ave. and Old Farm road . Upon making contact with the driver of the vehicle Master Officer M. Hunsucker (K-9 Officer) learned the driver had no license and presented an identification card. Officer M. Hunsucker also detected the odor of marijuana coming from the vehicle and noticed digital scales in the vehicle as well. Through further investigation and the assistance of Narcotics Sgt. C. Babb, Narcotics Officer B. Council and Lt. M. Moseley several narcotics items were located in the vehicle such as; Ecstasy (MDMA), marijuana, and cocaine.                 The driver was identified as Marceles Hawkins 29, from the Roanoke Rapids area. Mr. Hawkins was arrested at the scene and carried to the Roanoke Rapids Police Department where he was processed and carried to Halifax before a magistrate. During the processing officers checked the subject again and were able to locate cocaine hidden on Mr. Hawkins. The subject was charged with the following: PWISD Cocaine, PWISD MDMA, Poss. Of marijuana, Poss. Drug paraphernalia, Poss. Marijuana paraphernalia, driving while license revoked, and fictitious registration plates. Mr. Hawkins was placed under a $5,600 bond with a court date of July 7, 2020.
