The last of three suspects in 2018 murder to appear in Superior Court - Rocky Mount


At 1:30 a.m. on June 30, 2018, Brian Patrick Barnes, Sherrod Donte Joyner and Courtney Ramos fatally shot Antwon T. Chisley, age 38, of Rocky Mount, as they robbed him at gunpoint in the 100 block of Sullivan Lane.


Sherrod Donte Joyner was charged with first-degree murder and robbery with a dangerous weapon. On February 14, 2020 Joyner was found guilty of first-degree murder and robbery with a dangerous weapon in Nash County Superior Court. He was sentenced to life without the possibility of parole.


Courtney Ramos was arrested on July 6, 2018, and was charged with first-degree murder and robbery with a dangerous weapon. He was sentenced to 14 years and 10 months and is projected to be released in 2029.


Brian Patrick Barnes was arrested July 1, 2019 and was charged with first-degree murder and conspiracy to commit robbery with a dangerous weapon. He has a court date on the Admin Superior Court Calendar Monday April 5th, 2021. This could mean that the attorney will be making motions or possibly a plea deal. It is uncertain when the case will go to trial if no plea is made.
