Two from Rocky Mount caught in the act of stealing copper in Tarboro

*****RELEASE OF INFORMATION*****

On May 23rd, 2020, at approximately 1:30 pm, Corporal Brandon Smith was patrolling the area near Vidant Specialty Clinic assisting with the search for a missing person. While doing so, he observed a vehicle parked behind a vacant facility adjacent to the clinic. The vehicle had a single female occupant, had an open trunk lid, and was positioned near an open door along the rear of the building. Corporal Smith made contact with the female inside the vehicle and within a few minutes observed cut copper piping in plain sight inside the open trunk area. He then looked into the open doorway of the facility and located more cut copper piping on a push cart waiting to be loaded into the vehicle.

Based upon these observations,

Corporal Smith requested assistance in detaining the female while he entered the facility with his K9 partner to search for additional individuals involved. As a search of the facility was initiated, a male individual was located on the property walking away from the building. This individual was also detained and he was quickly linked to the incident.

After completing the investigation and collecting evidence, the 40-year-old male, Anthony Evans and 45 year old female, Patricia Wilson from Rocky Mount were placed under arrest and each charged with: one (1) count of Felony Breaking and Entering; one (1) count of Felony Possession of Burglary Tools; one (1) count of Misdemeanor Injuring Property to Obtain Nonferrous Metal; and one (1) count of Misdemeanor Larceny. They were both secured in the Edgecombe County Detention Center under a $7,500.00 bond.
